The battle opened Friday and Sadurday about sunset he fell. They sead that they were orderd to about face and then he was shot in the head and ciled insteadly. There is but 16 of Johns compy left and 200 in the 51 Reg. James Brown sead that he had Johns blanket and a coat that he was agoing to send home. They had some things boxed and them he got them but his knapsack he never see after the battle for they had to retreat and leave their dead and wounded on the field. He sead that if Burnside had ben there they would have gaind the day. They are campt about a mild from us in this vally which is called Pleasent Vally. We are in sight of the Potomac.
