Dear Charlotte

I have just received your letter and was verry glad to hear from you and that it left you all well. It does me so mouch good to get letters from you. Little Maties padey has grown fast since I left home. I knew it was hers as quick as I looked at it. I have ben on the dock to work since Friday. I have got to work ten days and I will be relieved. I wish you could see the sick and wounded come in. They come from the front and are sent to the hospitals. Some on croutches and some have to be ceared and they all look pale and poore. It looks hard to see them go. I have ben at work this for noone. They know no Sundays here but I runaway today noone. I made up my mind I wouldent work this afternoone. They have ben shiping troops from here for three days to Foretresmonroe. We think now we shall have to go before long but perhaps we wont. We dont know for sertin. You sed you talked of going to Rachels. I heard she was down to see Jacob this week. One of our boys got a letter from a man in his compeny. He sed she was there. I wish you could come and see me but you would have to go father than she had to. If I was up in Maryland I would have you come or I would come see you. I started a check and $5. I hope you have got it to day. I told you I wanted you to send a pair of boots. I wish I had them but I dont know wether you can send a box or not. Some say they have stoped cairing boxes again. I wish I had some of your cooking now. My apetite has been poore for 3 or 4 days but I feel well enough. I thank you for them pepers. If I had to had them last Friday it would done me good. I worked all day in the rain and hale. I got verry wet and towards knight there would ice cickles freize to the capes of our coats but it is quite pleasant now. It freizes hard knights but pleasant days. I have not heard from Rast since he went away. I hope you heard from him before now. You wanted to know who slept with now. I think I told you in one of my last letters but I will tell you again James Batcher and James Dore and I tent together. We have just drawed some beef. I got six ounses for my section. I shal cook it for super. I wish you was here to eat beef stake with me. We have plenty hardtack pork coffee rice and some beans. I wish you had my rice. I dont use much of it. It is most knight and I haint got no candle light. I want my letter to go in the morning so I shal have to stop writing for this time. You wrote a short letter and I am obliged to write a short one this time. I will make it up the next time. Give my best respects to our folks. No more so good buy Charlotte.
