My Dear Wife
As there is an opportunity to send a letter this afternoone I will write a fiew lines to you to inform you that I am well and hope you all are. I was verry much disappointed to day. We got a mail to day but no letter for me. I dont know the reason. I guess you dont get my letters and think perhaps I am killed or wounded. We are about two miles from where we was when I last wrote. The rebs have got another strong position. Their camp is about one mile from ours in plain site. There is a continuel skermishing going on all the while and some canonadeing. When Sherman gets good ready they will have to get out of there. I think there will be harder fighting done here than has ben done in this department this sumer. There has ben a great deal of rain the past weak. It rained every day and at times verry hard. I would like to hear from the Army of the Potomac to know how they are getting along. I hope Grant will have good success. I am verry anxous to have the war close. I have seen all the fighting I care about but there is more to be done and it falls on us to do it. I hope you have got some of my letters and I hope you have writen some so I can hear from you. I havent time to write eney more this time. I hope this will find you all as well as it leaves me. My love to you all. Good buy dear Charlotte.
