Frosterville Tenn
Oct the 24 /63

Dear Charlotte

I once more take my pen in hand to write a fiew lines to you to let you know that I am well and where I am. I wrote a letter a weak ago to day. We was then at Tullahoma. We left there Sunday. Marched to Decherd 15 miles. There we left the wagontrain and marched back to Tullahoma. Staied there Monday knight. Tuesday we marched to Wastrace 15 miles further. We lay at Wastrace Wensday all day and just knight we took the cars and came here to Fosterville. We are about 50 miles from Nashville now. We had orders to put up winter quarters so we tore down all the empty houses in the place and put up our shanties. We worked at Thursday and yesterday and to day we built our fireplace. There is fiew of us in my shanty. Sergeant Williams Wood Youngs Jim and myself. We have got good quarters but dear Charlotte I am afraid we wont stay here to enjoy them long. We expect to leave here tomorrow. We will go to Allabama. We was with in 17 miles of the state line when we was Decherd. It dont seeme to be our luck to stay at one place a great while but if we can do eney good by going I say go. We have had it pretty hard for the last ten days. I wish we could stay here this winter but I dont suppose we will. I saw Generel Grant Wensday. He has gone up front. He has command of the Army of the Cumberland now so we are under Grant now. We got a mail Thursday and I got a letter from you. It was mailed the fifth. I was verry glad to hear from you and that you were well. I am sorry about Billy. You have a great deal of troubel. You must not wory about me. I will get along. I dont have it as hard as you do. You musent borrow troubel. It comes fast enough. You spoke about lending money. You had better have it in shape where you can get it at eney time you want it. We dont know what will hapen. If eney thing should that you wanted it then it should be where you can get it without eney troubel. It should be earning something. If you can let it to someone that can get it in case you needed it you had better let it out untill June. The weather is verry changeable. It raines half the time. Last knight was the coldest knight we have seene. It froze quite hard and it is cold to day. I got a letter from Ervina yesterday. They are all well. I shant answer it verry soone. She is a complete copperhead and I would reather shoot them then to spend time to write to them. I dont care who it is. I heard the 109th had received marching orders. I wish I knew wether they had gone or not. I must close so good buy.

My love to you.

I have writen six letters to you since I left Via. I have received three letters from you since I have been in Tennessee. I dont see how you take care of the baby. He is so heavey. I wish I was there to help you take care of the children. I know you have your hans fulle.

Sunday the 25 /63

I will try and write a fiew more lines to you. I thought yesterday we would leave here to day but it is now two oclock so I guess we wont go yet to day. The 60th regt has just gone by. We expect to go to Bridgeport Alabama. It is 90 or 100 miles from here. The colonel has just doubeled the picets and the rest of the regt is under arms. We have all got on our cuterments. I guess there is some reb cavelry not far off. It is a pleasent day again to day. I dont feele verry well to day. I have got the direar again. The health of the regt is poor. There is a good meney that are sick. If we could lay still a fiew weaks it would do us good but I dont know when we will get seteled again. I hope we can have some good place to stay this winter. I heard there had ben a call for 600,000 more men. I hope it is so and I hope they will be put in the field soone as posible. I guess if I had staid at home I would be drafted but they cant draft me now and if I ever get home they cant call me a conscript. We dident get eney mail yesterday nor to day and I guess we wont untill after we move to the brigade. I must close for this time. Write as often as you can. Good buy.
