Dear Charlotte

I again seat myself to write you a fiew lines to inform you that I am well. I received your wellcome letter of the 3rd to day. I was verry glad to hear from you once more and to hear that you were all enjoying good health. You stated that you hadent writen in over two weaks. It was just as well for I wouldent got them till now. You sead you see in your paper that Slocomb was repulsed. That must ben rebel news. We swept every thing before us untill we got here and they dident hold out long here. Savannah is quite a citty. There is about twenty thousent inhabents left in the citty. The most of them are Union people. There is perfect order cept all over the citty. Geary is in command of the post. I hope he will stay in command for the next nine months. Sherman is getting ready for another campaign. It may be six weaks yet and it may not be three. I some think our divition will stay here. It would be a fine thing for us if we could. The citicens of this citty are all in favor of Gearys staying here. I think the next campaign will be towards Charleston. I took a long look over at South Carolina. She looks ugely and as if she was full of the worst rebels. We will make her tremble when we cross the river. We will tare things. I am sorry you havent got your money yet. You must go to the bank. I think you will find it there. If you dont it is lost. It must be there. The boys have all heard from their money. It all went safe. I heard the citicens of Binghamton are going to send a box of provitions and socks to the 137th. I hope they will. I want a pair of socks. I wore mine all out on the last campaign travaling through the sand. It seames they havent quite forgoten the old regt yet. I guess there will be quite a time when we go home if we all go to Binghamton. I am pretty buisy now. We have Co cooks and as I drew the rations the captain wanted me to boss the cooking. I cant boss unless I take hold and work so I am chief cook and bottle washer for Co B. I dont think I shal stick to it a great while. I have plenty to eat but I dont like it verry well. I wish you could see my famely eat once. It looks and goes the same as at a large hotell. We drew meal so I have had to make mush. I can make it good but we have to eat molases on it. We have plenty of that. I wish you could be here while we stay here. We could have a house to live in but there is no use of talking about that. I must close for want of room. Write often. This will be the last letter in 64. How I would like to be home New Year. My love to you dear Charlotte. Good buy.
