Dear Wife

I will write again and let you know how I am getting along. I am well and hope you are all enjoying good health. I received yours of March the 20th. You was verry discouraged then. You hadent heard from me in some time. I hope you received my letter that I wrote near Fayetteville so you will have better courage to write. I know the times pases slower with you than it does with me or seems to. You are alone. Here we have exciteing times the most of the time. I look for a letter every mail but I dont get but fiew. I hope you will get all my letters and answer them all. I am out of envellopes and I cant buy eney here for less than one dollar a bunch and verry poor at that. If they was good ones I would pay that for them. I wish you would send me a fiew. I have got plenty of paper. We had a great time yesterday over the fall of Richmond but I am afraid it haint true. If it haint I will be mad and never cheer for it again. If it is so the war will soone end. We heard that Grant had taken 25000 prisoners. I dont think we will stay a great while perhaps not three days. We are all ready to go again. Shermans army are in good spirits and ready for eneything. I never heard as much chearing before as I did yesterday. Dezerters ceep coming in. The weather is warm. The woods look verry nice. The leaves are quite large. It must be verry warm in Savannah now. We are a great deal further north now than we was when we was at Savannah and it is a good thing for us. It will be warm enough here this summer. Every thing is quiet to day. I am sergeant of the quard. I dont draw rations eneymore. It is the first time I have done eney guard duty in 18 months. I will send you my sergeants warent. Take good care of it and I will have it framed or else you may have it framed for me. Hazard and Andrews have got commishens. They make good officers. I am glad they were promoted. They deserve it. We have compeny and battalion drills. We have a verry nice camp. I wish we could stay here a fiew weaks yet to enjoy it but time seams to pass quicker on the march. Rast will have to help lay some bridges. If Lee moves Grant will follow him and the engeniers will have something to do but that is better than fighting. I hope I will see Rast this summer. I think I will. I dont think of eneything else to write this time so I will close by biding you all good buy. Write often. Direct as before onely put on Left Wing Army of Georgia and not Savannah.
