Dear Charlotte

I will spend a fiew moments in writing to you to inform you that I am well. I was disappointed yesterday day not getting a letter. I look for one very day now for it is time for one to come. I think I will get one the next mail. We are on the same ground we was when I last wrote. Yesterday was Sunday and happy to tell you that we see one more quiet Sabbath. That is quiet to what we are uest to seeing. The rebels cept throughing shell from their big guns in their forts untill three oclock Sunday morning and fireing ceased with the exceptions of a fiew shots they fired with their field peices. Our men never fired a shot untill dark when they fired four shots. A signal I think. The pickets was verry quiet all day till dark and they commenced and they are at it now. There has ben considerable artilery fireing this morning. There has ben some hard fighting since we crossed the river. The rebels hold out well but they will have to dig out before long. They have had some big fires in Atlanta. There was one all knight last knight. I think they must burn some of their things that they cant get away. I expect we will have some hard marching to do when they leave Atlanta. This is a long campaign. It will be three months tomorrow since we started from Stevenson and how much longer it will last I cant tell. I hope when the campaign ends the war will end to. We have had some verry warm weather a fiew days back. We had a verry fine shower yesterday afternoone. It is cloudy to day. I suppose farmers are haying now. That last coll for troops will thin out the able bodied men some in some places. I guess if I hadent enlisted I would ben drafted before now. I would like to know what you are all doing this morning and how you are getting along. I hope you are all well. I wrote a letter to Evina the other day. Do you get eney letters from her eneny more. I thought I would write to her and find out what she thinks about Lincoln being reelected and so on. I must close for this time.

From you husbman Charles Engle to Charlotte Engle. Good buy.
