Dear Charlotte

I again seit myself to write you a fiew lines to let know what is going on here. Yesterday afternoone we received orders to march. We packed up and started. We marched south about two miles and went in camp for the knight and to day we had orders to go back in our old camp. So we are in our old tents again but the orders are to hold ourselves in readiness to march at eney time. I think when we go we will go south west. The rebs dashed on our pickets this morning a little before day. They killed one of our men. Our boys took fourteene of them prisoners. I dont know but I think when we march we will abandon the place and the road as far as Chatanooga. I suppose it will depend a gooddeal on what success the army has that is following Hood. Our Col thinks we will stay here three or four days yet. I hope I will get another letter before we go. Dear Charlotte I have had a picture taken for you. It is a poor picture but it is the best they can do here. I thought I would have one more taken. The next one you see will be a naturel one. I will send it next fall if nothing hapens. I guess that will suit you the best. I am shure it will me. I would like your picture verry much. I think you will send it as soone as you get the money which I hope will soone be. I say something about it in every letter so if you dont get theme al you will know I sent it. The check will be 120 dollars and four dollars in a letter. I hope you will get it all. I have got a receipt from the Col for the $120 so it is all safe. It rains here to day. I am glad we dident have to march but it will rain the most of the time here now. I dont suppose there will be much snow here. It is to far south. Day after tomorrow is lection. I hope every good loyal man will do his duty at the ballot box. If they dont the rebels will flank them and gain the field. I hope they will all look out for that and not let them gain the great battle for it has a good deal to do with us all. I wish I knew what you are doing to day. I guess you are writing to me. I wonder if you have moved yet. If you haint you must sufer with cold. I will use my last stamp on this letter. If we go on a campaign and go south I dont know when I can wright. I am afraid not in some time. I will write again before we go if I have a chance. So you musent wory if you dont get letters. I will close by biding you all good buy.

Charles Engle

O how I want to see you all.
