Dear Charlotte

I now seit myself to write a fiew more lines to you to let you know that I am well and mouch hoping that these fiew lines will find you all well. I got your letter yesterday wich I found dated the second and was verry glad to hear from you and that you was well. It is a pleasent morning but quite cold. Last Friday it snowed most all day. I was on picket Thursday. We had a verry good time. We went to an old cecehs cow yard and milked our canteens full and I tell you we had a feast on hardtacks and milk and Sadurday I was detailed to go to Generl Gearys headquarters to guard there and yesterday morning about three or four oclock the Generl started for Charlestown a village about four miles from here which was ocupied by the rebs. Our reg went to and they scedadle out of there. I was verry sorry that I wasent along to see the fun. Erastus is agoing to write to day and he will write about it. You sead you was agoing to send us a box. I wish you would send my rapers and I would like a pair of gloves and a pair of taps to tap my boots. It is agoing to be cold here this winter and our close are so corse and not lined the wind blows through them and we have a great deal of guard duty to do. We dont get more than three or four knights sleep in a weak. You stated that the crops were gatherd. I am glad to hear that. I think we shal be home in the spring. I dont think this war will last mouch longer. I think Richmond will be taken before long and if we can hold this place I think they will have to give up. This is the most important place of the south. It is well fortified and I think we can ceep back the whole south with a third of our men. I had another letter from Jacob yesterday. He is well and sead they was agoing to Texes with that new fleet they are ageting up but there was so meny sick with the measels they couldent go. He thinks they will stay where they are this winter. You wanted to know wheather I ust my pillow or not. I couldent verry well get along without it and as for washing I dond ask no ods. I went to the river last Tuesday and I took a kittle and I boild my close and got them clean as you please and it has ben so stormy my close haint dry yet but to day it is pleasent and I think they will get dry. I wish you would send me a pair of socks. My goverment socks are about wore out. They are so loose I hate to draw eney more of them. I shal have to stop writing for this time. We shal have to drill. The most of our drills is skermish and battalion drills now. They say we are agoing to have out large tents this weak. I hope we shal for these little tents are cold. You wanted me to let you know wheather I got all your letters or not. I have had four from you. I guess all that you have writen. You sead you would write something that you hadent wrote yet yet if I got all your letters. I want you to write it and let me now what it is. I shal have to stop writing.
