Dear Charlotte
The sun shines warm and pleasent and I am reather lonesome so I will spend a little time in writing a fiew lines to you. I am well and much hope you are. My health never was better than it is now. I weigh 189 lbs. It dont hardley seam posible that I am so heavy but that is my weight. You know I alwais told you that I thought the southern climate would agree with me. There was a lot of work men past by here to day. They were mostly from Broome and Tioga countys but I dident see eney one that I was acquinted with. Some of them are homesick already. They started the first of this month. Some of them are about sceart to death. They are afraid of the guerilies. They sead they expected every minute comeing here from Nashville that they would be actacted. Such fears dont troubel us eney more. The chaplain starts for home this afternoone. I wish I had something to send to you but I have not. He is going to Binghamton. He came and told us if we had eney things to send he would take it for us. If you have a chance to send a pair of socks by someone I wish you would. I think there will be some more go before spring. There is dezerters from Braggs army comes in here most every day. A great meney of them enlist in our army. I talk with a great meney of them. They say provition is verry scare and they say they dont use them right. They are all sick of it. They say there is no use of fighting. They come in in squads from five to twenty. They are all down on the coperheads. They think they are wors than Jef Davis. I guess the war will play out one of thoes days. I hope so. I want to come home and see John D and Matie the worst way. I heard it was verry cold weather up north now. It is quite pleasent here. some days it is pretty cold but it dont last long. I shall look for a nother letter tomorrow. I am agoing to write a little oftener. See if you wont write a fiew more letters. You do verry well. I get one every weak but I want once and a while an extry one. I must close by biding you good buy. I send my love to you. Kiss the children for me. Good buy.
